*is DEAD*

I kid you not, this thing took me the better part of a year to finish.

To debunk any questions, this is not a fan character, nor is it a rendition of Calypso from Pirates of the Caribbean: this was purly inspired from the track "Davy Jones" from the Dead Man's Chest soundtrack. While I had a blast drawing this, I knew that when it came to inking and coloring, I was in for the challenge of my life.

How right I was.

The reason why it took so long was because I was so piss-scared of screwing it up that I would literally color one section at a time. It took me five months to build up the courage to color her skin alone. This is one of the few pieces I've done where I've been so anal about the mood and style of the picture. I wanted to draw something that was both beautiful, but looked like she'd been sitting at the bottom of the ocean for a long time. Then between the barnicals, the eel, the veil, and just about everything else... Needless to say, I can confidently say that this is my Mony Lisa. For the time being, that is.

The driftwood in the background was referred from this picture [link] by :iconusuakari:. Go check out his gallery to see his awesome photography!

Once again, I'm in such desperate need of a new scanner I'm almost embarrassed to post anything.

PLEASE do not share, duplicate, or distribute without my permission; do NOT upload to Myspace, Facebook, and any other pathetic excuse for a social mean floating around the net.

I walked forth from the darkness of dispair and into the light of hope, with a purpose in life.

To protect those I care about
That's really well executed and owes very little to my photo. The Nereid-model, moray eel, all the details.. great stuff!

I am there when darkness falls...
I am there when light arises anew...
I am there when your life has ended...
I am there when your soul will burn.

I see the demons of your hell.
I kiss the angels of your despair.
Great job. I love your use of colors and costume design, as always.
